Program – Tammy Dunn, United Way

Shenanigans is this Friday, Calling all Characters! If you haven’t brought your wine or beer for the Cork Pull yet, drop it off at the Chamber by Friday.
Our speaker was Tammy Dunn from United Way. There are 40 agencies in Walworth County who benefit from United Way donations. She reported that 39% of residents in Walworth County are living day to day. Tammy talked about the 2.1.1 program that anyone can dial for emergency resource help. This is a national United Way program and they have recently updated our local database. A person will answer the phone 24/7, 365 days a year. You can call, text or chat. United Way received an Elkhorn Fund grant to enable them to buy billboard advertising to promote this service. Tammy also talked about the Familywise prescription savings card. This is not insurance but a discount card. It is being used by 3400 people in Walworth County alone, who have saved $500,000. United Way also receives out of county corporate donations. Everyone is invited to United We Dance on Saturday, March 7, at 7:00 pm for a fundraiser sponsored by Toe to Toe Ballet. Tickets are available online.

GET TO KNOW THE ROTARY FOUNDATION

WHAT DOES THE ROTARY FOUNDATION DO WITH ITS MONEY?

The Rotary Foundation spends charitable contributions on multiple programs - from the eradication of polio, to scholarships, vocational training teams, Rotary Peace Centers, and humanitarian projects. The funds are used for programs and projects Rotarians feel passionate about. With a four-star rating by Charity Navigator for ten years in a row and over 1.2 million Rotarians over-seeing the funds at a grassroots level, I have all the confidence in the world that our funds through Rotary are in amazing hands doing amazing work here and abroad.

You can read stories and see the details of our Foundation’s financials in our most recent Annual Report on rotary.org.
