Our speakers were Cooper Johnson and Stacey Kincaid from Darien Solar Energy Center. This project funded through Invenergy is a ten year solar project near Darien. They need to lease the farmland, access transmission lines, do geotechnical research and identify wetlands to avoid, in order to be successful. Benefits of this project include construction jobs, and production of 250 megawatts of sustainable energy, enough to power 50,000 homes. There is a similar project, Badger Hollow, in Iowa County. The plan here will have 33% of the land with solar panels and the rest will be prairie restoration. This will include beekeeping, pollinator habitat, a seed bank, and animal grazing (not mowing). They need 1,750 acres on a 35 year lease.
