On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the City of Elkhorn's new police chief, Jon Albrecht, stopped by for our first meeting back at the newly refurbished Matheson Memorial Library to share his background and hopes for the department. The Elkhorn resident with two children in the school district cited his past experiences with the Walworth County Sheriff's Department and Linn Police Department as critical to working with our area law enforcement partners and key to effective leadership. He also described his policing belief as seeing residents as "not bad people, just people having a bad day" when officers are needed to intervene.
Jon confirmed that Elkhorn is a very safe community, with the greatest problem right now being graffiti. He also emphasized the partnerships with the school district, fairgrounds, and other first responders as important to their work so we can move Elkhorn forward together.
