On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Cubmasters Don Zlevor and Joe Knapp of Scouting America Cub Scout Pack 225 gave an extensive update on our chartered youth organization and talked through their Elkhorn program for boys and girls aged 5-11 years old. The pack currently has 35 enrolled scouts and 10 volunteer leaders spread across the six dens. 2025 activities included collecting over 2,000lbs. in non-perishable food donations for the Elkhorn Food Pantry, three family campouts, and a recent Pinewood Derby hosted at West Side Elementary School with over 150 scouts and family members.
Don and Joe thanked their Rotary representative, Kristin, for her support, the Elkhorn Area School District for their support, and our Rotary Club members for their food, wreath, and flower sales to support the kids. The pack was also recognized as the largest in the Rock River District (Rock, Walworth, Jefferson counties), and Don was awarded the prestigious Key Award for his work as a leader. The volunteers are also mentoring the new Cub Scout pack in Whitewater until they get established.
Several food items and $150 cash were collected at the meeting to support this year's Scouting for Food program, and Kristin presented an additional $500 donation from our club to support their ongoing program.

Club members gave recaps on John H.'s Celebration of Life and our "Toast to John" event at Friends on the Square. A big thanks to Ward for speaking on behalf of the club at the service, and to Brian H., Mariann, Kelly, and the Halpins for organizing the Toast event!
The March 7th EAHS Solo & Ensemble Concession Stand was a bust for fundraising, but appreciated by the Music Department organizers. Volunteers gave feedback; Katie is reluctant to participate in the event again as a way to fundraise for the music program.
Dawn gave an update on the PETS weekend in Ithasca, IL and noted the powerful "Emerging Leaders" track as a wonderful opportunity for all in the future.

On February 23, 1905, after having had lunch with his closest friend, Sylvester SCHIELE, coal merchant, Paul HARRIS, lawyer, and his friend went to the office of Gustave LOEHR, mining engineer. There they met Hiram SHOREY, a tailor.
Paul HARRIS proposes to form a club: “a very simple project of mutual cooperation and informal friendship such as each of us once knew it in his village”.
The four friends, of American, German, Swedish and Irish origins, and of Protestant, Jewish and Catholic religions, then decided to meet periodically in a spirit of trust and fellowship, both for the pleasure of meeting but also in order to “make themselves considerate and helpful towards each other” and to widen the circle of their business relations.
They did not then imagine that this would become a great international organization of friendship and service.
