Thank you to everyone who took the time to give feedback on the club and your interests. We learned:
70 percent of those surveyed value our work in the local community as most important to their Rotary membership.
People would like to try an alternative meeting time each month for more/different members to attend! So beginning in June, we will begin a monthly BREAKFAST MEETING on the third Wednesdays from 7:15-8:30am at the Matheson Memorial Library. Breakfast, coffee, juice, and water will be provided to those on the meal plan. Same great food, speakers, and fellowship... just a new time! Reminder emails will go out the Tuesday before. Note to Board Members: Board meetings will now be on second Wednesdays, with the same location and time.
The club is satisfied with the quality and diversity of weekly guest speakers. We like to learn from local businesses!
Supportive mentorship is a strong interest among new members. The Membership Committee is working on a strategy to ensure all members feel included and engaged.
Folks want to get outdoors! More meetings at the Rotary Pavilion at Babe Mann Park. Mixing up seating arrangements so people can meet other members will be occasionally part of future meetings too.
Bring back 5th Wednesday After-Hours! Cindy will organize upcoming events in July and September.
On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, members reviewed the Rotary Club of Elkhorn's mission, also known as the Five Avenues of Service. They are Club Service, Community Service, Vocational Service, International Service, and Youth Service. These are the foundations of our club's purpose and how we align our activities each year.
The group reviewed our 2025-26 activities and compared them to the priorities revealed in our survey results - we were closely aligned! Heavy work was done on Club and Community Service work. Youth Service was also strong. We will work on International and Vocational Service in the coming year.

The District is hosting a Club Leadership Summit at MATC Mequon from 8:00am-1:00pm on Saturday, May 16, 2026 for any Rotarian looking to take on a greater leadership role in their local club. The morning has been designed to equip current and emerging Rotary leaders with practical tools, role clarity, and meaningful connections to lead a successful Rotary year. $15 per person. A big thank you to Rotarians Jon A., Charles, and Brian for helping with the 2026 Great Give Back over the weekend! Together they did landscaping at City Hall, cleaned up the Elkhorn library, landscaped cemeteries, and more. Four hours to teach teens that giving back is a lifelong journey. Thanks, Gentlemen!!!
Before 1989, the Manual of Procedure indicated that Rotary-Clubs were composed of “adult and male persons” which prohibited them from admitting women.
But a movement of opinion was beginning to emerge, mainly in the USA, taking into account women’s increasing access to economic responsibilities.
The Rotary-Club of Duarte, California, then took the liberty of admitting 2 women, in violation of the statutory clauses.
Threatened to have his Charter withdrawn, he brought a lawsuit against Rotary International, which went all the way to the Supreme Court, citing gender segregation.
The clause reserving Clubs for male members was declared illegal in the American States.
Since there could be no different statutes in the U.S. and the rest of the world, a decision was required and it was taken, according to Rotary’s democratic rules, at the 1989 Council on Legislation, by a majority of voting delegates.
