Rotary Notes 2/12/2020

Program – Jason Tadlock, EASD

Amanda encouraged us all to get our costume ready for Shenanigans. If you have any super hero decorations, you can give them to her. Get tickets and turn in money to Curt.
Our speaker was Jason Tadlock, along with Bill Trewyn, who gave a presentation on the 2020 Referendum. There is a link on the school district website, www.elkhorn.k12.wi.us with more information. The district has two charter schools, one is the alternative high school at Gateway and the other is Options at St. Patrick’s School. They are currently in year 3 of a 5 year lease for this building. There are two questions on the referendum, the first is to purchase the St. Patrick’s School and make the needed renovations at a cost of $6,920,000. St. Pat’s has acreage for future growth and is a building with good bones, but needs a lot of interior updates and work. They looked at the cost of a brand new building of similar size and the cost was $12 million, without the land purchase or furnishings. They feel it is the right time because of the debt service, there will be no tax impact on the community if we do it now. Also interest rates are low now and if we wait, construction costs go up.
The second question is to approve a $200,000 annual increase for operating costs to address maintenance and technology needs. Approval of this question will have a small tax impact, $9 per $100,000 of property value. Please vote on April 7.
